Give yourself the gift of time to play and discover clay’s responsive meditative qualities!

Fall class schedule TBD.

Tuition – $425 includes:

  • 3 days of instructional and interactive sessions
  • Firing of onsite work,
  • A follow-up 3-hour glaze session,
  • Materials – 25 lbs of clay, use of tools and glaze, and
  • 30 minute one-on-one meeting to discuss business/marketing, art practice or any general topic.

Location - Erin McGuiness Studio
Sawtooth Building, 2547 8th Street – Studio #33
Berkeley, California

During a 3-day workshop you will learn the art of coiling and specific techniques for building vessels and sculptures.  Erin McGuiness will work with you individually and collectively to develop your practical skills and express your own creative unique perspective.  Through demonstrations and plenty of time for hands on work, you may immerse yourself in this meditative, straightforward and flexible process. An optional one-on-one meeting is also offered to discuss business and marketing of your art/ceramic business, next steps for your art/ceramic practice, general critic or any topic of interest.  The workshop is open to all levels of experience - adults as well as teens over 15.

Coiling is an ancient tradition of pottery, dating back 15,000 years to the Jomon culture in prehistoric Japan. Like the Jomon (which means cord) potters, contemporary coil artists use ropes of clay to create a variety of sculptural and functional forms.
